Video That Helps to Get People Fitter and Stronger

shortstories works with a number of clients from the sport and physical activity sector (including Wigan Warriors, CIMSPA, Omnia Foundation, Competence).

They all do important work in helping people become fitter and healthier - extending their longevity as well as their quality of life.

Competence provides an app that allows learners and their assessors to track their learning journey.

They provide courses across a range of subjects and applications. One of these courses is for Gym Instructors.

It gives learners the knowledge and skills they need to qualify in this specialist field and to begin a career in the sport and physical activity sector.

Part of our job in the production of this course is to create learning content for topics such as ‘Anatomy and Physiology’ and ‘Maximising the Customer Experience in the Gym’.

Another area earmarked for video content is the demonstration of gym exercises. These have become the ‘How-to Manual’.

Our audience is made up of people keen to learn and establish the technique of each exercise in their minds.

The learners will be teaching others how to perform these as part of their exercise routines, so our aim is to keep the video clips clear, short and simple.

Watch the completed version here:

Our editor devised a watchable, attractive and fluid presentation of the footage: text-on-screen, music and voiceover to help make the clips concise and watchable.

The learner is offered all the information they need about each exercise within the video.

You may have noticed that a lot of online instructional content contains introductions that can feel too long, slow and time-consuming.

With this in mind, we made sure each clip has a short intro, to establish the name of the exercise and the text on screen specifies which parts of the body it is focused on developing.

We then get straight into the instructional content.

The result is a series of video clips that are designed to enthuse and inform the learner as they progress towards their professional qualification.

From our point of view, it is satisfying and fulfilling to create such content. It is inspirational to see the work of the organisations working towards improving the physical (and mental) wellbeing of the UK.

For us, it’s great to be able to contribute to that large and important project.
